Latitude

There’s nothing quite like the taste of freshly brewed coffee, but how you store your beans (or grounds) can make all the difference between a vibrant cup and a stale one. At Latitude 23.5 Coffee & Tea, we know that quality coffee deserves proper care. Whether you’re stocking up on whole beans, ground coffee, cold brew sachets, or K-Cups, these tips will help you keep your coffee tasting as fresh as the day it was roasted.
Why Coffee Freshness Matters
Coffee is at its peak flavor shortly after roasting. As time passes, exposure to air, moisture, heat, and light can cause it to lose aroma and taste. That’s why proper storage is key for preserving those unique flavor notes, whether it’s the chocolatey depth of our Espresso Tempesta or the refreshing brightness of our Cold Brew Coffee sachets.
Best Practices for Coffee Storage
1. Whole Beans
- Keep them airtight: Store whole beans in an opaque, airtight container at room temperature. Avoid clear jars or plastic bags, as light can speed up degradation.
- Buy in smaller batches: Whole beans stay fresher than pre-ground coffee, but it’s still best to buy only what you’ll use in 2–4 weeks.
- Grind just before brewing: Grinding releases aroma and oils, so grinding only when needed ensures the freshest flavor.
2. Ground Coffee
- Use quickly: Ground coffee oxidizes faster than beans. Aim to use it within 1–2 weeks of opening.
- Seal tightly: Reseal the original bag (if it has a one-way valve) or transfer to an airtight container.
- Avoid the fridge or freezer: Temperature changes create condensation, which can ruin the coffee’s flavor.
3. Cold Brew Sachets
- Store sealed & dry: Keep sachets in their original sealed packaging in a cool, dry place.
- Use by best-by date: Our Cold Brew Coffee Sachets are designed for freshness, but once opened, brew within a few weeks.
- After brewing: Store brewed cold brew in the fridge and enjoy within 7 days for the best taste.
4. K-Cups & Nespresso Capsules
- Pantry-friendly: Thanks to their sealed packaging, K-Cups and capsules are less sensitive to air and light.
- Keep dry & cool: Store them in a cupboard, away from direct sunlight or heat.
- First in, first out: Rotate your stock to use older pods first and keep your brews consistent.
Extra Tips to Keep Coffee Fresh
- ✔️ Avoid storing coffee near spices, onions, or garlic—they can absorb odors.
- ✔️ Skip decorative glass jars on the counter—coffee looks nice, but exposure to light kills freshness.
- ✔️ Use vacuum-sealed containers or containers with one-way CO₂ valves for optimal preservation.
